It’s spring, the trees are starting to bloom, the clocks have moved forward & some lighter, brighter days are here!
So the question on everyone’s lips is: what are you going to wear?
The celebratory feeling of forthcoming warmer times might just tempt some of you to go all out in shorts & t-shirts……..and why not? Go for it! But if you want something more pared down but equally enjoyable, & eye-catching, gingham could be just the way to go as part of your spring/summer wardrobe.
A little history lesson: The name of the fabric gingham may originate from the Malay word “genggang”, or it may come from the Vichy, in France. Although its origins are unclear, its popularity is undeniable and lasting. It was brought into Europe in the 17th century and remained a staple print throughout fashion cycles, through the years. In more recent history,it continued to be a classic pattern in women’s wardrobes thanks to the actress Brigitte Bardot, who immortalised the print in a beautiful bespoke Gingham wedding dress.
Gingham really is paired so well with spring, it brings to mind images of picnic blankets and daisies, and the young green leaves of this warmer season. While it might seem on the face of it an old-fashioned print, our team of designers at Salamander shirts have shifted the classic Gingham to another level, with bright colour combinations and interesting silhouettes that are far, far away from dreary.
